Push Off Day- Finally! October 15, 2022

We did it! We finally left Cove Haven Marina for good (well until maybe next summer). Last night we had a lovely dinner with family and friends at Bluewater Grill.

We packed the boat to the gills with food and stuff! What did you expect with a family of 6? Hopefully we didn’t forget anything.

It feels almost unreal that we are finally doing this. After so much planning and a string of delays, it felt like this day would never come. As exciting as it was to get going and finally cast off our lines at Cove Haven for the last time this year, the preparation definitely took its toll. Last minute changes in dinghy plans and jerry-rigging a solution to hauling the outboard motor, and all the other final preparations meant that we got less than 5 hours of sleep. Our departure isn’t perfect, but it is time to go!

Montauk

When we arrived in Montauk, we raised the marina with a bit of difficulty, and got situated with the amazing help of the dockhand Jack at Gurney’s Star Island Resort and Marina. We then set about cleaning the cockpit after a day of sailing(ok, I mean motoring), a ritual at the end of every trip. Following this, we set out to stretch our legs a bit exploring the resort. A wedding was taking place at the resort, so we did our best to avoid them while checking things out. It is a beautiful resort and based on first impressions would definitely recommend checking it out. We came back to the boat and had dinner, which pretty much wraps up our first day

We spent the next couple of days exploring Montauk by foot, Uber and even on horseback. It was a picturesque place, and it was not hard to imagine why many flock to it in the summer. The view from the lighthouse! Well, you can see, was amazing! The purple sand beach we found on our horse trail tour was just beautiful. Definitely a place to visit again!
